Lake George- Home Away From Home

When the owners of this home first got in contact with Johnson Construction, it was for repairs on the property’s original home. Not long after, the decision had been made to tear down the existing home and to rebuild a cozy lake home that could be enjoyed throughout the seasons.

The property the house was built in sits on three adjacent counties. As far as permitting goes, this did not have an impact, however, sitting on the northern edge of Lake George, permits had to be obtained by the APA (Adirondack Park Agency) as well as the Lake George Park Commission.

At the beginning of the project, the sunroom was drawn to be a screened in porch, however, throughout building the homeowners made the decision to change it into a part of the interior so that it could be enjoyed year long. The vaulted ceiling above the dining and sunroom were finished with pine tongue and groove boards. Birchwood flooring pulls the eye from the entryway towards the back of the house, right towards the main focal point of the home, the lake.

The stones used to build the wood burning fireplace in the great room were hand selected from old stone walls in Adirondack, then cut and transported to the job site. The fireplace that was chosen features glass doors that once opened, can slide back into the unit to give the homeowners the feeling of having a traditional open-faced fireplace while having the security and control of an airtight wood stove.
